Nainital: A shocking case of administrative fraud has surfaced in the Banbhoolpura area of Nainital district, where a fake death certificate scam has exposed the misuse of government records and deep-rooted corruption. During a routine verification drive, authorities uncovered that several living individuals were falsely declared dead with the help of fabricated documents.

The scam came to light when police stumbled upon a death certificate issued in the name of a man currently out on bail, despite being sentenced to life imprisonment. The fraudulent certificate triggered a detailed investigation under the strict supervision of Nainital’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Prahlad Narayan Meena.

It was revealed that certain members of the local cemetery committee, including Iqbal Ansari and his son Tanveer Ahmad, were involved in the fake death certificate scam. These individuals allegedly accepted large bribes to issue fake cemetery receipts, which were then used to generate bogus death certificates through the municipal corporation. The fraud not only targeted residents of Nainital but also included names of deceased individuals from other states.
