Dehradun: Mahendra Bhatt has been elected as the Uttarakhand BJP President for a second consecutive term, creating history as the first leader to hold the post twice in a row. With no other nomination filed, Bhatt’s unopposed selection was formally announced on Tuesday during the party’s provincial council meeting by central election officer Harsh Malhotra.
Top Leaders Backed Bhatt’s Nomination
According to election officer Khajan Das, Bhatt filed five sets of nomination papers, each signed by 10 different proposers. Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami, former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, BJP national media in-charge and Garhwal MP Anil Baluni, Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt, and Union Minister Ajay Tamta were among the primary proposers.
Other senior leaders who supported the nomination included BJP state general secretary (organization) Ajay Kumar, former CM Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, Kalpana Saini, Tehri MP Maharani Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, and Subodh Uniyal, among others.
These Leaders Elected to BJP National Council
Eight senior leaders from Uttarakhand BJP have been elected to the BJP’s National Council, including Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Union Minister Ajay Tamta, and former Chief Ministers Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Trivendra Singh Rawat, and Tirath Singh Rawat. Ajay Bhatt, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, and Kalpana Saini were also among the elected members.
CM Dhami and Anil Baluni Praise Bhatt’s Leadership
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised Bhatt’s leadership, noting that the BJP has won every election under his presidency. “Mahendra Bhatt has vast political experience and has strengthened the party by working with everyone. Today, all senior leaders supported his nomination,” he said.
Anil Baluni also emphasized the importance of BJP’s internal democratic process. “BJP is the only party in the country where elections are held from the grassroots level to the national president. Every active worker gets a say,” said Baluni.
Bhatt Becomes 10th BJP State President
With Tuesday’s announcement, Mahendra Bhatt officially became the 10th State President of the Uttarakhand BJP. His re-election marks the first time in the party’s state history that a leader has been given the reins for a second consecutive term.
