Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Roadways Department has announced special arrangements for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, which is set to begin on July 11 and continue until July 23. In preparation for the expected heavy rush of pilgrims, a new bus operation plan has been finalized. Routes of many interstate buses may be diverted from July 17 onwards, and passengers may also face increased fares due to longer travel distances.
According to Roadways General Manager (Operations) Pawan Mehra, all preparations for the Kanwar Yatra are complete. If crowd levels rise, buses from Dehradun and Rishikesh heading to Delhi will be diverted via Saharanpur or Karnal to avoid congestion on the Haridwar route.
Bus Operations During the Yatra
- Buses from Dehradun to Haridwar will operate only up to Motichur.
- Buses from Delhi to Haridwar will terminate at Gaurishankar Parking.
- Buses from the Kumaon region will reach only up to Chandighat.
From July 17, during the Dak Kanwar period, bus routes will be diverted. Buses from Rishikesh and Dehradun to Delhi, Gurugram, and Faridabad will be sent via Saharanpur. If this route becomes unavailable, buses will take the Karnal–Sonipat route to reach Delhi.
Fare Changes Due to Route Diversion
- Via Saharanpur: Route increases by 20 km; fare may increase by ₹50.
- Via Karnal: Route increases by 50 km; fare may rise up to ₹110.
Haridwar and Rishikesh Route Adjustments
If crowd levels become too high in Haridwar:
- Haridwar depot buses will operate from Rishikul.
- If further congestion occurs, buses will run from Gaurishankar Parking.
- Repairs and maintenance will also be arranged at this location.
On the Rishikesh–Haridwar main road, buses may be diverted through Chilla Road to manage traffic flow. Buses from Dehradun and Rishikesh going to Haridwar will also use this alternative route if required.
